MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME MANY YEARS AGO THAT there is a thing called the Truth with a capital T. This is an absolute. There is a Truth to how the future will unfold, and none of us is insightful enough to know exactly what it will look like. There is a Truth about how data flows through computers. There is a Truth to the most productive and healthy ways to run a team of people. Unfortunately, we all have flawed perspectives in trying to grasp that Truth. Some perspectives are just more flawed than others.
Our perspectives are flawed because we often find ourselves looking through old filters. They can be flawed by beliefs that are just plain wrong, or they can be incomplete because we simply lack the necessary information. Leaders often make decisions about technology when they know next to nothing about it, but leading with incomplete or flawed perspectives means we make poor decisions and lead others down painful paths.
The pace of change in our world demands that we constantly revise our perspectives. If we do not, we will be looking at a new world through old eyes. You have to see clearly in order to go fast. That’s what the velocity manifesto is all about.
